WBSC unveils new strategic plan with continued growth of global baseball-softball and member empowerment as key focus

Crafted in close collaboration with all of WBSC’s stakeholders, the 2022-2028 Strategic Plan is fully aligned with the Olympic Agenda 2020+5 following a pilot project conducted in cooperation with the International Olympic Committee.

The WBSC has unveiled its new 2022-2028 Strategic Plan, which is focused on the continued growth of baseball-softball worldwide and the further empowerment of its national federation members over the next seven-year period.

The plan builds on the WBSC’s existing nine goals, which includes making baseball and softball a permanent fixture on the Olympic programme following the sport’s celebrated return at Tokyo 2020.

“Our 2022-28 Strategic Plan reflects our unwavering commitment to strengthening baseball and softball globally, while ensuring the WBSC is fit for purpose and leading the sport with integrity and focus," WBSC President Riccardo Fraccari said. “It will also ensure the global baseball-softball community is aligned and growing together in the same direction, taking strength from each other’s experience and development to help secure our sport’s future and allow it to maximise its potential on the international stage.”

Crafted in close collaboration with all of WBSC’s stakeholders, the overall strategy is also fully aligned with the Olympic Agenda 2020+5 following a pilot project conducted in cooperation with the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

The other strategic goals include consolidating and empowering the Continental Associations and WBSC family, strengthening WBSC governance and reputation, as well as growing the sport to increase participation, relevance and its worldwide audience. The plan also includes enhancing transparency and sustainability, strengthening leadership and Olympic relations and securing a portfolio of global and recognisable brands as WBSC sponsors.

Within each strategic goal are 73 sub goals, 244 roadmaps and 436 Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), ensuring a measurable long-term strategy and objectives that guide the WBSC’s mission to grow baseball and softball globally and increase access to the sport.

While WBSC’s strategic goals have guided the organisation since 2021, the new long-term strategic plan provides a far more comprehensive roadmap towards achieving each goal. Meanwhile, the monitoring and evaluation of the strategic objectives will be done quarterly, and when needed other roadmaps and KPIs will be added.
