WBSC Women’s Softball World Cup European qualifier set to open on Sunday in Catalonia, Spain

The European tournament will take place in Barcelona, Gavà, Sant Boi de Llobregat and Viladecans.

With a total of 21 teams, the Women’s Softball European Championship will open on 24 July in Catalonia, Spain. The tournament serves as qualifier for the WBSC Women’s Softball World Cup 2024, which will be the first to be played under the two-stage format.

The continental championship will take place in Barcelona, Gavà, Sant Boi de Llobregat and Viladecans.

The participating teams have been split into four groups, with two of the top-eight National Teams from the 2021 Women's European Championship allocated in each group. These two teams will play a single game to define their positions in the next group stage, while the rest of the squads will start the tournament with a single round robin, with the winner also advancing to the six-team quarter-final groups.

The top three finishers in the quarter-final groups will move into the semi-final group, with the best two nations in the final standings advancing to the final.

Italy is the reigning European champion, after the victory over Netherlands, 9-5, on home soil last year.
