Wei-En Lin and Po-Chun Lin shine as Chinese Taipei surge to 6-1 win

The pitching staff dominated the Korean lineup and led the hosts to their second win.

Starting pitcher Wei-En Lin and reliever Po-Chun Lin helped World No. 5 Chinese Taipei to record their second win with a 6-1 triumph over Korea in Group A of the XXXI WBSC U-18 Baseball World Cup.

In the top of the first, Korea got started with a 1-0 lead as Tongkeon Yeo singled through the right side, sending Sihyun Park home.

Chinese Taipei soon tied the game at one with Nian-Hao Wang's RBI single to left field.

In the bottom of the third, pinch hitter Hsin Chiu, Hsun-Chieh Lee and Tien-Szu Huang each hit a one-RBI single, granting Chinese Taipei a 4-1 lead.

Chinese Taipei scored one more run in the fourth to extend the lead to 5-1. Korean reliever Taekyeon Kim got out of the bases-loaded jam, throwing back-to-back strikeouts to retire the last two batters of the inning, stopping Chinese Taipei from earning more runs.

In the bottom of the sixth, Chinese Taipei’s Ching-Hsien Ko first singled to left field, then reached second on stolen base, and finally scored on Korea’s throwing error, extending the lead to 6-1.

Chinese Taipei’s reliever Po-Chun Lin ended the game, striking out one, allowing no hits and two walks. After the second win, Chinese Taipei’s next game will be against Mexico on Sunday at 12.00 local time, while Korea will face Czechia at 15.00, seeking their first win.
