The World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) announced today the live-streaming coverage of the first ever WBSC Baseball5 World Cup taking place at the Zocalo in Mexico City from 7-13 November.
The tournament will be available live and free on the WBSC’s OTT channel GameTime as well as on the WBSC YouTube channel (geo-blocking restrictions may apply). The WBSC Baseball5 World Cup will also be available on the Olympic Channel and TikTok while fans in China can also watch the tournament via the WBSC's official Weibo channel.
A total of 12 teams will be chasing the sole dream of becoming the first WBSC Baseball5 world champion with hosts Mexico and European runners-up Lithuania having the honour of playing the first ever Baseball5 World Cup game when they open the tournament on Monday at 20:00 local time.
A total of 12 teams will participate in the
historic event, starting with the group stage, where two groups have been
formed based on the results of continental events:
Group A: Mexico, Lithuania, South Africa, Japan, Cuba and Hong Kong.
Group B: Korea, France, Kenya, Chinese Taipei, Venezuela and Tunisia.
The 30-game Opening Round will finish on 10 November, with the top three finishers from each group advancing to the Super Round, while the other six teams will participate in the Placement Round.
The top two teams from the Super Round, to
be played on 11 and 12 November, will compete for the Baseball5 World Champion
title, while the number three and four placed teams will play for the bronze
medal. The World Championship Final is scheduled on 13 November at midday,
preceded by the Bronze Medal Game at 10:00.
The second edition of the Baseball5 World
Cup is scheduled for 2024 with the first edition of the Youth Baseball5 World
Cup due to take place in 2023. Baseball5 will also make its debut in the Youth
Olympic Games at Dakar 2026.
