World No. 3 Korea awarded Wild Card for WBSC U-23 Baseball World Cup

Korea is the eighth team to enter the U-23 World Cup. The top four finishers of the Americas Qualifier, scheduled from 10 to 19 June in Aguascalientes, Mexico, will complete the set of participants.

The World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) Executive Board today awarded Korea a wild card into the next U-23 Baseball World Cup.

Currently ranked third in the WBSC Baseball World Rankings, Korea earned a bronze medal in the 2016 U-23 Baseball World Cup in Monterrey, Mexico.

To date, eight of the participating teams in the 12-team U-23 World Cup have been confirmed:

Africa (1) No. 26 South Africa
Asia (4) No. 1 Japan, No. 2 Chinese Taipei, No. 3 Korea, No. 21 China
Europe (2) No. 8 Netherlands, No. 18 Germany
Oceania (1) No. 10 Australia

The Americas Qualifier is scheduled from 10 to 19 June in Aguascalientes, Mexico. The top four finishers will advance to the World Cup.

The fourth WBSC U-23 Baseball World Cup is scheduled from 14 to 23 October in Taipei City. Venezuela is the defending World Champion in the category.
