World No. 5 USA awarded wild card into WBSC U-12 Baseball World Cup

The three-time U-12 World Champions become the 10th participant in the youth world championship.

PULLY, Switzerland -- The World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) Executive Board has awarded world No. 5 United States a wild card into the next WBSC U-12 Baseball World Cup.

The VI WBSC U-12 Baseball World Cup, originally part of the 2021 calendar, was postponed to 2022 due to the COVID-19 travel restrictions. The 12-team U-12 World Cup is scheduled to take place this from 29 July to 7 August in Tainan, Taiwan.

Nine of the 12 National Teams have qualified for the youth world championship (in order of continental standings): 

  • Americas (4): No. 7 Dominican Republic, No. 4 Mexico, No. 13 Panama and No. 6 Venezuela
  • Asia (3): No. 1 Japan, No. 3 Korea and defending World Champions No. 2 Chinese Taipei 
  • Europe (2): No. 14 Czech Republic and No. 17 Italy

The wild card US U-12 National Team is the 10th confirmed participant set to compete for the official title of world champion in the respective youth category.

The National Teams qualified out of Africa and Oceania will be the respective 11th and 12th participants. The respective Continental Associations are to confirm their qualification processes.

The US won three consecutive U-12 Baseball World Cups (2013, 2015 and 2017), while Chinese Taipei won the first (2011) and last editions (2019).
