Yadier Molina could be next Puerto Rican National Baseball Team manager

The two-time MLB World Series winner, who announced his retirement as a player after the 2022 season, met with the Puerto Rico baseball leaders. He managed the U-23 National Team in 2018.

Perennial Major League Baseball (MLB) All-Star Yadier Molina could be the next manager of the Puerto Rican National Team.

The Puerto Rican Baseball Federation's official account posted on Twitter that the two-time (2006-2011) MLB World Series winner met with the federation this week.

The 39-year old Molina, who managed Puerto Rico at the WBSC U-23 Baseball World Cup 2018, is still active as a player. He played 121 games for the Cardinals in 2021, posting a respectable .280 batting average.

Molina previously announced that 2022 will be his 19th and last season as an active player.

The Puerto Rican website Primera Hora reported that 'El Lìder' (the leader) is a strong candidate for the managerial job for Puerto Rico in the next World Baseball Classic, competing for the job with current manager Juan Igor Gonzalez, former superstar Carlos Beltran and Josué Espada, the bench coach for the Houston Astros.

Molina represented Puerto Rico in the previous four editions of the World Baseball Classic.
