Youth sport: Miranda wins Venezuelan U-15 baseball title; Dominican Republic U-12 National Championship set to open

The Venezuelan youth national championship served as a platform for the selection of their U-15 National Team. Seventeen provinces will play in San Pedro de Macoris for the Dominican U-12 title.

Youth baseball activity is always intense in the Americas.

Miranda recently won the third Venezuelan U-15 Championship. The cities of Guatire, Los Teques, Carrizal and Caracas (Gran Caracas) hosted the one-week, 18-team tournament.

Miranda defeated Distrito Capital in the semifinal, 9-7, and went on to beat Aragua, 3-2, in the championship game.

The Venezuelan Baseball Federation (FEVEBEISBOL) used the tournament as a platform to select their U-15 National Team

The III Dominican Republic U-12 National Championship opens on Thursday, 12 May. The Academia Mama Celia, La Caobas sports complex and the Academia Paulino in San Pedro de Macoris will host the games.

Juan Núñez, the president of the Dominican Baseball Federation (FEDOBE), revealed that 17 provinces and 272 players would participate.

The teams will split into six groups, five including three participants and one including two. The winner of each group will advance to the elimination phase. The final is scheduled for Saturday, 14 May.
