Zambia launches U-15 Baseball5 National Championship

The competition, involving 15 teams, opened at OlympiAfrica Centre in Lusaka and will run through to 9 September.

The Zambia Baseball Softball Association (ZABSA) launched the first U-15 Baseball5 National Championship at the OlympAfrica Centre in the Nation's capital Lusaka.

ZABSA is using the partnership with the OlympAfrica Center in Zambia to promote and grow the sport of Baseball and Softball using Basebll5 as an initiative. A total of 16 teams have registered to participate in the League.

Games are scheduled on Saturdays through the next six weeks. Lusaka will host the finals on Saturday, 9 September.

Kenny Matishi, a ZABSA board member, said the tournament is also intended to prepare players for the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympics.

In December 2022, the WBSC started a major Baseball5 Development project in Zambia. In March 2023, 10 teams participated in a U-18 Baseball5 championship representing the final step of the development project.
