Zimbabwe holds softball training camp for U-12 pitchers and catchers

The camp involved 27 players - 15 girls and 12 boys. The Zimbabwe Softball Association’s technical director, Grant Machikiti and former Zimbabwe senior men’s team pitcher Alfred Sithole led the coaching staff.

The Zimbabwe Softball Association organized a camp for pitchers and catchers in the U-12 age bracket in the eastern city of Mutare.

"The goal was to instruct these future players on fundamentals," said the Association's secretary-general Witness M. Nkomo. "It was the first of many scheduled high-performance camps designed to train players and widen the selection pool for our future National Teams."

The National governing body partnered with four junior clubs, Chitown Eagles based in Chitungwiza, Golden Stars based in Harare, Chinboyi Elites and the hosts Eastlanders.

The 27 participants - 15 girls and 12 boys - received video tutorials before undergoing practical sessions on the field, including demonstrations by the coaching staff, led by the Zimbabwe Softball Association’s technical director, Grant Machikiti and former Zimbabwe senior men’s team pitcher Alfred Sithole.

The second part of the practical session consisted in the execution of the fundamentals.

"The camp represents a step in the right direction," commented Nkomo.
