Paralympic Commission

Created by the IOC in 1983 in response to the growing public interest in sports practice and the development in the trend in health/fitness and physical activity, the most important aim of the Sport for All Commission is to encourage and support the efforts and developments disseminating the health and social benefits to be gained by all members of society through regular physical activity.

Role of the Paralympic Commission:

  • Serves as a consultative body and is the link between disabled athletes and the WBSC;
  • Represents disabled athletes and upholds the rights and obligations of the athletes;
  • The Commission makes recommendations to the WBSC’s Executive Board;
  • The Commission identifies opportunities for disabled athletes to compete.
