U-23 World Champions Venezuela receive highest honor back home

One of the highest honors that any civil person can receive in Venezuela was granted to the U-23 National Team after they won the World Cup in Mexico.

After winning the WBSC U-23 Baseball World Cup last Saturday in Mexico, some members of the Venezuelan team met president Nicolas Maduro, to receive the Francisco de Miranda order, one of the highest recognitions in the nation.

“Since 1941 we haven't won such an important title. I feel admiration for this achievement. This is important to give baseball in Venezuela a new push, every game was so exciting and they as a team represent what Venezuelan baseball means,” said president Maduro, according to the local media Ultimas Noticias.

Venezuela manager, Carlos García, a true legend of baseball in the country, said: “I want to thank you for the support and the chance to be in the right place and time to experience this.”

For Venezuela it's the second time they have won a medal at the U-23 level, after the bronze in 2018 edition.

"The players' performance was according to the scenario".

Venezuela will defend their title as soon as next year when the fourth edition of the U-23 Baseball World Cup will be hosted by Chinese Taipei Baseball Association.
