PULLY, Switzerland -- The World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) today revealed the latest WBSC Women's Softball World Rankings, which include a total of 67 nations and territories, following the conclusion of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

Points earned in the summer of 2017 also expired as part of the current four-year rankings cycle and were removed from the rankings in the latest update, accounting for various movements as international activity was shut down in 2020 due to Covid-19.

The WBSC awarded a total of 1,320 ranking points for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic softball tournament:

  • JPN - 1st place - 400 pts
  • USA - 2nd place - 328 pts
  • CAN - 3rd place - 256 pts
  • MEX - 4th place - 184 pts
  • AUS - 5th place - 112 pts
  • ITA - 6th place - 40 pts

Tokyo 2020 winner Japan (3,362 pts) has surpassed the United States (3,342 pts) to reclaim the No. 1 position in the Women's Softball World Rankings. No. 3 Canada (2,990 pts) holds its position.

Mexico has hit its historical high at No. 4 in the world, surpassing now No. 5 Puerto Rico. Chinese Taipei and China remain in the sixth and seventh positions.

No. 8 Italy, the recently crowned European champion, held onto its position, while No. 9 Australia, Oceania's top-ranked nation, moved up one place. No. 10 Netherlands rounds out the Top 10.

Cuba and Indonesia made the biggest moves up the softball rankings, jumping 10 places to No. 18 and No. 25, respectively.

No. 31 Hong Kong moved up eight places, while No. 33 Botswana and No. 36 Curacao both climbed seven slots.

The WBSC Women's Softball World Rankings measure National Team performance — from U-12 to professional level — in WBSC-sanctioned international competitions over a four-year period.
