Singapore beat India to complete semifinal line-up

Singapore will face off against Chinese Taipei in the semifinals after their quarterfinal win over India on Saturday morning.

Singapore impressed with a 10-0 quarterfinal victory over India on Saturday morning in Jin-Long Stadium to complete the II WBSC U-12 Softball World Cup semifinal line-up.

Edwin See and Yuujin Yamazaki tandemed on offence for Singapore with 2-of-3 hitting to produce half of the team’s total hitting output, while Ivy Sim pitched all four innings and had seven strikeouts.

Ivy Sim had a shaky start in the pitching circle as she allowed a hit for Kanishka but redeemed herself in the succeeding pitches as India were held scoreless in the opening inning. See made things happen on offence and with a couple of bunts and some aggressive running, he scored the first run for Singapore to lead 1-0.

Sim’s pitching was supported by her teammate’s excellent infield defence, resulting in India’s scoreless innings in the next three frames, while Singapore continued to score. Eight different Singaporean players combined for the next eight runs, until See made his second and Singapore’s final run to seize the win 10-0.

On Saturday afternoon, Hong Kong will play the Czech Republic and Singapore will face off with hosts Chinese Taipei for the right to play for gold on Sunday.
