Argentina remain as the only undefeated team and now lead the Super Round standings with a 4-0 record.

In an intense game between the two undefeated teams in the tournament, Argentina prevailed over Canada, 5-4, and sits atop of the Super Round standings. Manuel Godoy led Argentina’s offensive lineup with three RBI and a run scored.

Argentina took the lead in the third inning with four runs, one on an RBI single by Alan Peker and the other three with a three-run home run by Manuel Godoy, that landed in the top of the center field bleachers of Rosedale Park.

Canada reduced the deficit to half with a pair of solo homers by Brad Ezekiel and Bryan Abrey off Argentina starter Roman Godoy, who left the game after four innings pitched. Huemul Mata entered into the circle for Argentina in the fifth inning, but Canada loaded the bases and a clutch two-out, two-RBI single by Abrey tied the game 4-4.

But Argentina retook the lead in the bottom half of the inning, Teo Migliavacca tripled down the line to right field, and then scored easily with a long sacrifice fly by Manuel Godoy, who added his third RBI of the game.

The winning pitcher for Argentina was Mata, who tossed three innings giving up four hits and two runs, while striking out three. Canada’s Justin Schofield was charged with the loss.

Quotes - Argentina Coach Julio Gamarci

"The timing of the hitting was always important. Our defence was good because we held on to a one run lead very well.

"Canada has a huge team, a fighting team and a mix of veterans and youngsters. I think they are the top contender to make the final. Respect to them.

"I thought we put on a show today and I am happy because we need this kind of game to grow up. We have to win tomorrow to get to the final – and beat Australia and make sure we get to the final. We have toe rest, eat well and get ready."

Canada Coach Jon Stuart

"I liked our perseverance to come back from 4-0 down and we battled, we chipped away and we had a chance in the sixth, but got thrown out at the plate which was unfortunate. But I am proud of the boys in how they battled back.

"We had a couple of mistakes but we have to work on them and be ready for tomorrow. We had a chance right to the end and we need to be fully ready tomorrow against Cuba."
