History

Softball NZ is the governing body for Softball in New Zealand. The organisation oversees 20 associations and 125 clubs with a total affiliated membership of 25,000. The organisation commenced in 1937 after US based army personnel based in New Zealand during World War II introduced the game a year earlier.
At a performance level the mens national team, known as the Black Sox have won the world championship 7 times. The womens national team (White Sox) won the title in 1982 and competed at the the 2000 Olympics in Sydney.
