History

The games of baseball and softball had been played by the staff and people of the united states in Ghana but at the then BUDWEISR FIELD which later was called BRYNN PARK for years. In 1987 after a young man called Albert K Frimpong had learnt how to play the games and enjoyed it he decided to make it a Ghanaian sport.
He discussed with his then best friend and mentor Peter Tamberson to make this happen. After a few almost four years of up and down and several trips made to the national sports council from 1987 the Association was finally formed in 1992. Albert K Frimpong was made a member of the first ever association and also a leading one too. The Association was called the Ghana Baseball and Softball Association nicknamed (GHABSA), with the responsibility of promoting the games of Baseball and Softball in the country. The national team was formed and named (RISING STARS) and Albert was officially appointed the national captain. Due to Albert’s hard work he quickly gained respect and admiration from people who matter in Ghana sports and also the then president of the Africa Baseball and Softball Association General retired Ishola Williams, the executive of the ABSA, not to mention individuals and federations from the USA, EUROPE, and ASIA etc. The national team (RISING STARS) was successfully led to numerous tournaments by Albert then as the national captain from 1993 till they all retired. The key team members were Jimmy Davies, Paul Manoma ,Edward Quaynor,Isaac Nkansah, Peter Tamberson, Martin Agyemang Mensah aka (Owelewa), Michael Deku, Solomon Butler , Richmond Dogbe, Samuel Wemegah ,  Joshua Amponsah and above all Coachito (Samuel Ayer) and others. These people really helped make Ghana Baseball what it is today. Ghana today is one of the top baseball playing countries on the continent and also known in the world. The games of Baseball and Softball was officially accepted and inaugurated here in Ghana by National Sports Council over two decades ago. The Ghana Baseball and Softball Association (GHABSA) is the sole body mandated to promote, develop and organize Baseball and Softball events in Ghana. GHABSA was officially inaugurated by the CEO of the National Sports Council (NSC), Gp Captain Ben Cole as far back as 1992 with Albert K Frimpong as a leading and key figure. Thus the GHABSA operates under LI 1088 of SMC Decree 54 of 1976. Ghana is a very well respected in Africa and internationally, the founder and president of the association has very great working relations with the African and international federations and that has been a very big plus for Ghana. Ghana baseball and Softball has a lot of potential indeed.
