TAINAN, Taiwan — Cuban 12-year-old right-handed pitcher Alejandro Prieto recorded the fastest pitch of the WBSC U-12 Baseball World Cup 2019, at 123 km/h (76.4 mph) in his win against Mexico today in the Super Round.

The flaming fastball, equivalent to roughly 153 km/h (95 mph) on a big-league field, created a buzz across media outlets, including Yahoo Japan, the nation’s biggest media portal.

Prieto surpassed Samurai Japan’s Sakumi Aoki, who touched 122 km/h earlier in the day against Venezuela.

The top starting pitchers at the U-12 Baseball World Cup have been ranging between 110-120 km/h.
