Chinese Taipei scored seven runs in the second to erase a 1-6 deficit in a 13-6 win against Nicaragua on Saturday afternoon. It was the final second-round matchup for both teams at the I IBAF 15U Baseball World Championship in Chihuahua, Mexico. They now await their fate for Sunday’s final day of the competition.

Nicaragua had the better start into the contest, using a pair of three-run frames to build a commanding advantage. A balk call and a two-run single by Jairo Mendoza were responsible for the first three runs. A RBI double by Carlos Perez and a two-run single by Chris Cerda made it 6-1. But Chinese Taipei answered in a big way. They plated seven runs in the bottom half of the second. Lin Chen Fei highlighted the rally with a three-run homerun. Two errors by the Nicaraguan defense helped as well. They added four more runs until the end of the game to win easily.

Additionally to the offensive attack Chinese Taipei received an impressive relief outing from Shih Peng Chen, who allowed just two hits and a walk in 5 2/3 innings after replacing starter Cheng Wei Lee in the second. Anthony Reyes took the loss for Nicaragua, issuing six hits, eight runs (7 ER) and a base on balls in 1 1/3 innings.
