Seoul (Korea). Panama has been for sure one of the surprises at the XXV IBAF 18U Baseball World Championship in Seoul, so far, but could not surprise Canada in the in-or-out game on Wednesday morning at Mokdong Stadium. The North-Americans took an immediate lead scoring twice in the first inning and cruised easy through the game until the final 10-1 that granted them access to the medal-awarding Group C.

Robson opened the game with a single against Rigoberto Santamaria and Hann followed with a double, and an error by Serrano allowed the first run, then Hann scored on a wild pitch.

Triolo doubled home Naylor in the second, pushing Spiwak to third, then a double by Desouza made both step on the home plate, for the 5-0 score.

Two doubles by Siddall and Naylor brought home the Canadian run of the third,  also forcing the substitution of Santamaria with José Luis Gonzalez, who pitched for 5 innings, allowing two runs in the fourth, out of a fielder’s choice after a double by Robson, a single by Hann and a walk to Desouza had filled the bases, and a single by Hodges.

A wild pitch from Brock Dykxhoorn made Panama score its only run of the game, after Serrano and Santos had hit safely in the seventh, both sent to the following base by Maloff with a grounder to Pimentel. Besides, the maple-leafed starter performed great, allowing three hits, a BB and one earned run, striking out seven in 7.1 innings pitched.

A walk to Morgan and a double by Siddall (3 for 5) gave Canada a 9-1 and a wild pitch finalized the final score at 10-1.
