2019 is going to be an important year for the development of Baseball, Softball and Baseball5 in the Gaza Strip, Palestine.
The Amwaj Development Association won the first ever Baseball5 championship played in Palestine. A total of eight teams participated in the tournament, that involved players between 12 and 35 years of age.
Softball activity is scheduled to happen in Palestine during the month of July. The plan is to organize Women’s Softball tournaments both at the adult and Under 15 level.
In September it will be Men’s Baseball time. The project is to hold another edition of the Under 15 Boys League and a tournament for adult players.
WBSC provided the spark to introduce Baseball, Softball and Baseball5 to the Gaza Strip by sending starter’s kits and other equipment to Mahmoud Tafesh, a former professional soccer player who was aiming to introduce the sport in Palestine.
Mahmoud Tafesh and his brother Ahmed have since then created a Baseball League for boys in September 2018, introduced Baseball5 in October 2018 and organized a Baseball tournament in January 2019.
