Africa: Youth baseball tournament staged in Burkina Faso with seminar on urban baseball5

Federation president Ibrahima Sibore attended the final of the U-15 Special League and held a baseball5 introductory course in Bobo-Dioulasso, the second biggest city in the country.

The president of the Burkina Faso Baseball and Softball Federation (FBBS, Fédération Burkinabè de Baseball et Softball), Ibrahima Sibore, attended the final of the Special League, a tournament organized by the Hauts-Bassins Region baseball league, in Bobo-Dioulasso.

Four clubs participated in the second edition of the U-15 tournament. It was dedicated to "the resilience of sports in the COVID-19 pandemic".

The Sya Léopards defeated Sya Little Club, 1-0, in the final.

The day after the final, the Burkina Faso Baseball and Softball Federation organised a instructional course on the rules of Baseball5 at the Regional District of Sports in Bobo-Dioulasso conference hall.

Sports leaders of the Hauts-Bassins Region praised the potential of the new five-on-five version of baseball/softball, which only requires a ball and can be practiced on various terrains, and be practiced indoors or outdoors.

The launch of an urban, five-on-five discipline has been a boost to baseball and softball development, particularly in Africa and Europe, with baseball5 set to debut at the Youth Olympic Games in 2026.
