Alberto Mazzanti confirmed leader of Italian Baseball for the Blind League

The Commissioner commented: "Becoming a WBSC Member to us means making the dream of Alfredo Meli come true. We would like to thank President Fraccari and the WBSC Board of Directors for welcoming us."

Alberto MAZZANTI was confirmed as the President of the Italian League Baseball for the Blind League (LIBCI, Lega Italiana Baseball Ciechi e Ipovedenti), following an online vote from the league's 11 clubs.

LIBCI's new Board of Directors includes Sarwar GHULAM, Giuseppe TOCCO, Giuseppe ROSAFLIO and Maria LUCCHET.

Mazzanti commented on the new status of WBSC Associate Member that the Italian Association Baseball for the Blind (AIBxC, Associazione Italiana Baseball Ciechi) earned during the last Executive Board meeting of 2020.

"Becoming a WBSC member to us means making the dream of Alfredo MELI come true. Alfredo, who passed away in 2010, invented [this version of baseball for the blind] many years ago. He started introducing his game to other countries with a trip to Cuba in 2000."

Mazzanti added: "We would like to thank President FRACCARI and the WBSC Board of Directors for welcoming us into the big world baseball/softball family. The accomplishment will allow us to continue the trek of the most beautiful sport in the world towards the Paralympic Games."
