The 2019 world champions took the field after six months without softball.

Men’s softball world champions Argentina restarted training after more than six months of lockdown in the country. The national team members held their first training session on Thursday, 1 October, at the Nafaldo Cargnel stadium in Parana.

National authorities allowed the national sports teams in the country to get back to training, with teams to follow strict health and safety measures. The Argentina Softball Confederation (Confederación Argentina de Softbol, CAS) produced a detailed COVID-19 protocol, based on the WBSC Return to Play Guidelines and Argentine Public Health Minister.

Argentina entered a mandatory lockdown on 20 March to face the early stages of the pandemic, and though restrictions have since been relaxed in many provinces, quarantine measures remain in force until at least October 11. However, national teams and athletes qualified (or in the qualifying process) for Tokyo 2020 have been authorised to train again by the national government.

Last year, Argentina won the WBSC Men’s Softball World Championship in Prague, Czech Republic, the country’s first ever senior world title.

They will look to defend the trophy at the Softball World Cup that's due to take place from 19-27 February 2022 in Auckland, New Zealand.

Back in February, the blue and white team finished in fourth place at the first-ever WBSC U-18 Men’s Softball World Cup in Palmerston North, New Zealand. The South American nation won back-to-back Junior Men’s Softball World Championships in 2012 and 2014.

The WBSC awarded Argentina the hosting rights of the inaugural WBSC U-23 Men’s Softball World Cup, to be held in 2021.
