Australia claimed today the first win of the Super Round with a 4-2 victory over China. Kayla Hancox’s speed ignited a 3-run seventh inning and a come from behind victory for Australia.

Australia got on the board first in the top of the second inning. With a runner on third base and two outs, Alexandra Stewart hit a line drive through the middle, pitcher Yinan Chai touched the ball with the glove and shortstop Xiaomin Lu fielded and assisted to first, but the throw was slightly outside of the base, allowing the Australian catcher to reach safe, and Jenna Trim to score from third.

China tied the game in the bottom of the third frame with an RBI single by Xiaomin Lu to plate Jingyun Zhang from third base. The first base had singled with one out and advanced on a wild pitch and advanced to third on a grounder.

The game remained tied till the bottom of the sixth when Anfeng Chen hit an RBI single to put China in front of the game.

However, in the top of the seventh Australia scored three runs and took a decisive lead. Oceania’s team tied the game with the speed of Kayla Hancox. The right fielder reached with a perfectly placed slap hit to shortstop, then stole second and third base, with one out and finally scored on a grounder to second base, in a very close play at home. It propelled Australia’s offense to take a two-run lead, with RBI singles by Georgia Hood and Philippa Adkins to make it 4-2.

With the lead, Georgia Hood closed the door in the bottom of the seventh striking out the side to clinch the win. She pitched four innings in relief to claim the victory, allowing 3 hits and 1 run with 5 strikeouts.
