The former MLB third baseman will replace Cam Vale, who ran the organization for the last four years. "It’s an absolute honour to have the chance to lead the game I grew up in and love."

Baseball Australia has announced Glenn Williams as the national governing body's next chief executive officer. He will replace Cam Vale, who successfully ran the organization for a four-year period.

"It’s an absolute honour to have the chance to lead the game I grew up in and love," commented Williams. "We’ve had a terrific era of success, and everything says we can now go even further, both on and off the field. Though Cam’s leadership of the sport and the tremendous effort put in by a wide range of baseball stakeholders, we are well positioned to seek great opportunities for baseball in Australia."

Williams, born in 1977, signed in 1993 as a free agent for the Atlanta Braves. A third baseman, he played Minor League Baseball (MiLB) for the Braves, the Toronto Blue Jays and the Minnesota Twins. He made his Major League Baseball (MLB) debut in 2005. He appeared in only 13 games but got at least a hit in each of them. During his last season in organized baseball, he appeared in 13 games at the Triple-A level.

Williams was part of the Australian National Team that earned a silver medal in the 2004 Olympics in Athens.

After managing the Australian Baseball League Sydney Blue Sox, he joined Baseball Australia in 2015.

"Glenn needs little introduction across the baseball community in Australia," commented Baseball Australia president David Hynes. "He is a product of our sport, but also has great new ideas about how we become more fun, more sustainable and more competitive."

Australia is currently No.6 in Men's Baseball and No. 8 in Women's Baseball in the WBSC World Rankings.
