OTTAWA-Baseball Canada is pleased to announce the names of 20 players that will travel to Cuba June 7th-14th to participate in the Cuban ‘Triangle’ Series.

The six game series will see Canada take-on the Cuban Women’s National Team four times and face the Venezuelan Women’s National Team twice.

The Triangle Series is the being used as a tune-up event for all three countries in preparation for the 5th IBAF Women’s World Cup August 10th-19th in Edmonton.

“The Triangle Series will allow the coaching staff to evaluate players in a highly competitive environment against two of the top countries in international women’s baseball,” said Head Coach André Lachance. “Players will have the opportunity to showcase their abilities before final roster decisions are made in July.

“The chance for our team to travel to Cuba and play in an event like the Triangle Series will be a valuable experience for our players and coaches as we prepare for the World Cup in Edmonton.”

Canada will bring a veteran club to Cuba as all but three players have played for the Women’s National Team in the past. Twelve players (Vanessa Riopel, Nicole Luchanski, Stéphanie Savoie, Kate Psota, Meagan Cornelssen, Rebecca Hartley, Jessica Bérubé, Amanda Asay, Jennifer Gilroy, Shayla Shahsavar, Samantha Ostrom and Ashley Stephenson) have previous World Cup experience, while three players (Émilie Laliberté, Britany Chan and Brinley McLaren) will be playing with the Women’s National Team for the first time in Cuba.

Head Coach André Lachance will be joined in Cuba by assistant coaches Sean O’Brien and former National Team player Patricia Landry, while Sylvain Poissant will be a guest coach.

Prior to the World Cup in Edmonton, the final roster for the Women’s National Team will be selected from participants at the Senior Women Invitational taking place in Spruce Grove, AB July 25th-28th. At the conclusion of the event the coaching staff will select the 20-player roster that will compete in the World Cup.

Canada will open the 5th IBAF Women’s World Cup on August 10th at Telus Field in Edmonton when they take on Chinese Taipei.
