Baseball Europe/Africa Qualifier: Israel, Netherlands lead after Day 1

The Netherlands and Israel lead after the first day of competition in Parma and Bologna. The game between Italy and South Africa was suspended with the score tied at first and will resume on Friday, 20 September

Day 1 of the WBSC Baseball Europe Africa Qualifying Event for the Games of the XXXII Olympiad Tokyo 2020 was bothered by bad weather.

The game between Italy and South Africa was suspended with the score tied at 4 in the top of the sixth inning. The game will resume from the exact point of suspension on Friday, 20 September, at 11 in the Nino Cavalli stadium in Parma.

Earlier in the day in Parma The Netherlands defeated the Czech Republic, 4-1. Orlando Yintema pitched eight innings allowing only one run, while Ademar Rifaela and Roger Bernardina provided the key hits.

Danny Valencia homered in the first inning and added a sacrifice fly to provide all the runs that Israel needed to defeat Spain, 3-0, at the Gianni Falchi stadium in Bologna. Joey Wagman went the distance and earned the win.
