Baseball for the Blind arrives in Austria

Instructors of the Italian Association Baseball for the Blind, a WBSC associate member, travelled to Graz and held a clinic for players and coaches.

Franco Buttignon, Marcello Massa, Adriano Chiesa and Michele Bianchi, four instructors of the Italian Association Baseball for the Blind (AIBxC), held a clinic for players and coaches in Graz, Austria.

The AIBxC envoy coaches received support from Peter Heissenberger, the local baseball club Dirty Sox manager, and his wife, a former softball player. Jens Sakelsek, an Austrian national who played in Italy for Leonessa Brescia, also participated in the clinic.

The instructors taught first the fundamentals and answered several questions. The following day was dedicated to field preparation. The players then practised base running, batting and fielding. At the end of the day, the players were split into two teams to play a game.

Eight blind players and seven assistants participated in the clinic, which, according to an AIBxC release, went "beyond expectations."
