WBSC Baseball5 international certification workshop a success in Cuba

Fourteen participants from all continents gained Baseball5 technical, theoretical and practical knowledge and will now be tasked to support the WBSC Continental Associations and WBSC members in the development of this new youth focused urban discipline of the sport.

The WBSC successfully concluded on Sunday 31 March a 3-day certification workshop in La Havana, Cuba, aimed to develop continental experts for the new urban discipline Baseball5.

Fourteen participants from all continents gained Baseball5 technical, theoretical and practical knowledge and will now be tasked to support the WBSC Continental Associations and WBSC members in the development of this new youth-focused urban discipline of the sport.

The Workshop was organized in collaboration with the Cuban Baseball Federation and the Baseball5 Cuban National Team. The team served as an application class while it was running try-outs to select the final roster for the upcoming Inaugural Baseball5 America’s Open due to take place in Cartagena, Colombia from 18-20 April 2019.

In Cuba, Baseball5 is regarded the international version of their popular street game 4 esquinas (4 corners); for this reason, the discipline gained extreme popularity and it is now played by thousands of young people across the country with the National Federation overseeing regional and national competitions.

The new instructors will be mainly tasked to deliver courses within the Baseball5 Global Coaching Programme and coordinating ad-hoc Baseball5 projects. Baseball5 is becoming quickly a global phenomenon with evidence of activities in over 40 countries worldwide just over 12 months from its official lunch in March 2018.

The WBSC is now tasked to support this global interest and will further be targeting territories like north and south America, the Mediterranean and the sub-Sahara Africa.
