Baseball5 to be included at 2022 Bulgarian Olympic Festival

Baseball5 is set to feature at the next Bulgarian Olympic Festival in 2022, following a positive demonstration in 2021.

The Bulgarian Baseball Softball Federation (BBSF), under president Yuri Alkalay, led a demonstration of Baseball5 at the recent XIV Olympic Festival in Albena, a touristic destination on the Black Sea.

The exhibition was organized in cooperation with the Bulgarian Olympic Committee (BOC), alongside 480 athletes of eight sports: wrestling, volleyball, swimming, track and field, table tennis, basketball, badminton and beach volleyball.

A five-inning inter-squad exhibition by the U-18 Bulgarian National Team kicked off the demonstration, with over 100 festival visitors later trying the five-on-five urban game.

Alkalay announced at the end of the day that he signed, on behalf of BBSF, a protocol with the BOC to include Baseball5 in the 2022 edition of the Olympic Festival.

Baseball5 will feature as a medal sport in the Youth Olympics starting from the 2026 edition.
