Buchner had two hits, two runs and two RBIs to spark Czech Republic's offence, while three pitchers limited the Philippines to only three hits and one run in the game.

Vojtech Buchner triggered the switch to start a productive second and third innings that led to Czech Republic’s 6-1 victory over the Philippines on Wednesday in the XVII WBSC Men’s Softball World Cup at Rosedale Park.

Buchner had two hits, two runs and two RBIs under his belt, while Czech Republic’s rotation of pitchers namely Michael Holobradek, Jakub Osicka and Jonas Hajny allowed only three hits and one run throughout the seven innings.

With Marek Maly on first base after a walk, Buchner homered to deep centre field to put Czech Republic ahead at the top of the second inning 2-0.

It didn’t take long for Czech Republic to complete the next two runs, as George Harris started to progress to first with a single, and second and third bases on a Marek Volf bunt and a throwing error. Vojtech Forman then singled to the right field to push Harris and Volf to each score a run.

Holobradek was swift in retiring the Filipino batters at the bottom of the second inning for his team to make another run on offence in the third.

Buchner and Harris both hit a single, putting the latter on second base. Lukas Kubat had an RBI single after Buchner completed the first run in the third inning, while Harris found the third base. Volf’s turn at bat also produced an RBI single as Harris reached home plate to put Czech Republic up with a 6-0 advantage.

The Philippines managed to get one run on the scoreboard, which was orchestrated by Gerone Riparip who singled to right field. He moved to second as Efril Mercado earned a walk, and advanced to third off as Melvin De Castro reached on fielder’s choice, before Riparip touched the home plate on another fielder’s choice.
