Canada played solid defence behind the almost untouchable starter Madelyn Hickingbottom and used some timely hitting to defeat Mexico, 4-0.

Mexico’s starter Yanina Trevino was bothered by control issues and defence didn’t help her.
In the bottom of the first with two outs, Canada’s shortstop Grace Messmer walked and designated player Kianna Jones followed with a base hit that brought her to third. Messmer scored on a wild pitch.

Center fielder Kendra Falby led off the bottom of the third with a walk and reached second on a throwing error. She then advanced on a ground out and scored on a sacrifice fly by Messmer. Canada added one run thanks to back to back hits by Kianna Jones and catcher Lauren Benson and one more wild pitch.

Designated player Allyse Volpe punished two more errors in the bottom of the fourth with an RBI single.

Mexico had the best chance to score against Hickingbottom in the top of the second when shortstop Kayla Inzunza tripled with just one out. The Buffalo University fireballer cruised to the end of the inning on strikes.
