Canada still unbeaten on top of Group B. Australia defeats Denmark. Three homers power Argentina past Czech Republic

Canada beat United States, 4-1, and remains undefeated on top of Group B. Australia clinched a come from behind win over Denmark, 5-3. Argentina used three long balls to score the first four runs of the game, en route to a key victory in Group A against host Czech Republic, 6-3, for the Group A

Canada claimed the North American classic against United States, 4-1, and remains undefeated on top of Group B. Four of the five runs of the game were scored via the home run.

In the bottom of the second inning, Blake Hunter and Bryan Abrey belted back to back home runs to put Canada ahead in the score, 2-0.

One inning later Steve Mullaley launched a solo shot to center field to make it 3-0. It was the fourth home run of the tournament for the veteran first baseman, he’s the leader in this category.

In the top of the fourth Matt Palazzo scored the only run of the game for USA, with a solo bomb off starter Patrick Burns, who won the game in 5.2 innings of work, with 5 Ks and 2 hits.

Scott Lieph relieved for 1.1 innings allowing 2 hits.

The last run of the game was scored by Canadian catcher Bryan Abrey, on a wild pitch.

Canada will play tomorrow Venezuela, in a duel of undefeated teams. USA is now 2-2 and will play its fifth game with Singapore.

Australia defeats Denmark, collects third win

Australia clinched a come from behind win over Denmark, 5-3, in the fifth day of competition of the Men’s Softball World Championship, and clinched its third win of the tournament.

Australia scored in the first two innings of play to take an early lead in the score. But then Denmark answered with two outs. Martin Simonsen walked, Anders Svane was hit by a pitch, and one pitch later Alejandro Isasi connected a 3-run home run to go-ahead in the score.

In the bottom of the fourth, with one out, Kim Hansen entered the game to hold the lead. But one out later Scott Patterson belted a solo shot to left field to tie the game at 3.

In the top of the third, Andrew Kirkpatrick came in in relief of Harrison Peters, who only allowed 1 hit in four innings: Isasi’s home run. The veteran left-handed pitcher was untouchable pitching three perfect innings to claim the win.

In the bottom of the sixth Australia scored took the lead again. Brendon O’Byrne and Joshua White singled, and the second baseman scored the go-ahead run on a wild pitch. Nick Norton singled in the insurance run with a single up the middle.

Australia is now 3-1 and tomorrow will take on South Africa. In the other hand, Denmark (1-3) will play its continental rivals, the Netherlands.

Three homers power Argentina past Czech Republic

Argentina used three long balls to score the first four runs of the game, en route to a key victory in Group A against host Czech Republic, 6-3, for the Group A of the Men’s Softball World Championship. Argentina connected 10 hits in total, 6 extra bases, to support the pitching staff.

In the bottom of the second Argentina took the lead with a pair of long balls. Gustavo Godoy singled to the left field, and Federico Eder belted a long home run that landed in the roof of the Czech House, placed in center field. Three pitches later, Federico Olheiser launched a bomb to right center field, to put the score 3-0.

One inning later Argentina used the long ball again to add one more run. Teo Migliavacca found a pitch in the middle of the zone and belted an opposite-field home run, making it 4-0.

In the top of the fifth Michal Koluch hit a soft liner to center field, advanced on a soft grounder to pitcher Roman Goody and Jiri Korkac walked. With two outs Vaclav Svoboda singled to right field and Santiago Carril couldn’t glove the ball, allowing the hitter and the two runners put the game 4-3.

In the Argentine fifth, after two quick outs, Bruno Motroni and Carril hit back to back doubles and Mariano Montero launched a triple to the right-field corner to score twice.

In the top of the sixth Czech Republic put two runners on base, but reliever Pablo Migliavacca fanned Michal Koluch and Matous Kasal to end the inning. Huemul Mata came in in the seventh and retired the side with two Ks and a grounder to end the game.

The winner was Roman Godoy, who pitched 5 innings allowing 5 hits and 2 walks, with 7 strikeouts. Marek Joska (2.1 IP, 5 H, 4 R, 2 SO) was charged with the loss.
