Chinese Taipei gets historic victory over Cuba in Premier12 global battle

TAICHUNG, Taiwan — Chih-Sheng Lin’s three-run home run in the bottom of the eighth inning broke a 1-1 tie with Cuba and lifted Chinese Taipei to a historic 4-1 win against the world No. 3 Saturday night at the sold out 20,000-seat Intercontinental Stadium.

It was the Chinese Taipei Men’s National Team’s first victory against powerhouse Cuba at a world level event since the 1986 Baseball World Cup.

Lin, the 2015 CPBL MVP, has three home runs in the tournament, tied for the most with Canada’s Tyler O’Neil.

Both Chinese Taipei and Cuba have 2-2 records in Group A going into the final day of Opening Round competition.

Chinese Taipei can qualify into the quarterfinals with a win or a loss by Cuba on Sunday.
