Chinese Taipei win Co-ed Slow Pitch Softball Asia Cup, qualify for World Cup along with Philippines and China

Chinese Taipei went undefeated to clinch the first-ever Asian slow pitch title.

Chinese Taipei defeated Philippines, 8-2, in the final of the Co-Ed Slow Pitch Softball Asia Cup, and clinched the first-ever Asian slow pitch title. China topped host Thailand, 16-0, in the bronze medal game. The top three teams in the final standings will play the first edition of the WBSC Slow Pitch Softball World Cup later this year.

The tournament was played at the Siam Polo Club ground in Pattaya, Thailand.

Chinese Taipei went undefeated to win the title in the five-team, four-day competition. After a perfect 4-0 record in the opening round, they topped the Philippines (second place in the first round) in the final.

“The players played to instructions and worked hard for each other as a team. While the Philippines tried hard, we were the best team,” said Chinese Taipei head coach Tang Chen-Hao. “I will maintain this team for the World Cup as they earned the ticket and are the best players available.”

Philippines head coach Ana Maria Santiago already puts her sights on the World Cup. “They gave their best and we have qualified for the World Cup. But we have a lot of work to do and I will probably bring two or three players who are based overseas to strengthen the team,” she said.

Chinese Taipei's Chen Ping Hsueh and Li Hsin-Yun were named male and female MVP respectively. Chen posted a .650 batting average, 7 home runs and 20 runs batted in (RBI), while Li had a .474 batting average with 1 triple and 3 RBIs.
