Colombia's Brayan Buelvas: The rising star from the rising nation

Buelvas, ranked 8th among the top prospects of the Oakland Athletics, was one of the youngest members in Colombia’s roster at the U-23 WBSC Baseball World Cup.

Brayan Buelvas was one of the top talents who took part in the U-23 WBSC Baseball World Cup. Buelvas was a key part of Colombia's national team that earned the bronze medal.

“This leaves a mark on you as a person. Makes you grow because we never stop learning,” said Buelvas about the experience at the World Cup. “These are unforgettable moments and I’m happy to have the chance to experience it."

About the differences between MiLB and International Baseball, Buelvas doesn't have any doubt: “It's totally different...Here it is more competitive. It's a short tournament and you want to win, no matter what...it doesn’t about your name or your individual performance, it's is about the team and how you help them to win."

“I’m so proud to have the chance to represent my country,” said the outfielder who was born in Monteria in 2002 and added, “I’m always happy to raise the flag of Colombia.”

Buelvas doesn't have any doubt about his future regarding his national team. “It's my dream to keep playing for Colombia in future tournaments. I don't have any plans to stop doing it."

With an estimated date to arrive at the Majors in the 2023 season, Buelvas could share the field with Nick Allen, another top prospect of the Oakland A’s who participated in the WBSC Americas Olympic Qualifier.
