Colombia's Julio Teherán urges fans to stay home

Colombian and MLB Los Angeles Angels pitcher shared a video and a hashtag #QuedateEnCasa.

With the corona pandemic still affecting countries around the world, Julio Alberto Teherán - one of Colombia's brightest baseball pitchers - has reminded fans to follow the advice of authorities and stay home.

"I want you all to follow the indications of the authorities to stop the spread of the virus," Teheran said in a video with the hashtag #QuedateEnCasa. "We are dealing with this across the whole world. There's only one thing we can do to prevent it: Stay at home. We will get back to our usual life, but for now we need to all take care of ourselves and our families."

The right-hander, nicknamed El Caballo de Olaya to honour the town where he grew up in Colombia, shared his concern about the COVID-19 pandemic through a personal video message.

Teherán represented Colombia at the World Baseball Classic in 2017, and is one of only 24 Colombians to have played Major League Baseball (MLB). The 20-year-old started 226 MLB games for the Atlanta Braves from 2011 to 2019. Before the 2020 season he agreed to a one-year and US $ nine million contract with the Los Angeles Angels.

Earlier this week Venezuelan softball legend, Olympian Maria Soto issued a similar message saying: “Today we’re all on the same team, wearing the same uniform. #StayStrong”

The 2008 Olympian sent a message to all sports fans to #StayHealthy, StayStrong, and #StayActive.
