Games get started this past week for the AA-level national championship in Chinese Taipei. This youth baseball competition, designated as “Hua Nan Cup”, will play the final on Sunday, May 20.
Fourteen junior high school teams, representing the main cities and municipalities, are taking part in this tournament.
According to the main organizer CTBA (Chinese Taipei Baseball Association), players with outstanding performance will be evaluated for the national squad selection.
CTBA said this select team will participate in the inaugural IBAF 15U Baseball World Championship (August 16 to 26, 2012), in Chihuahua, Mexico.
For this “Hua Nan Cup” competition, the favorites are the area teams with strong youth baseball traditions: Kaohsiung City, Tainan City, Chiayi County, Taitung County, and New Taipei County.
Sponsored by Hua Nan Financial Holdings, the 14 teams go through the double-elimination round on the way to the cup finals next weekend at New Taipei City’s Hsinchuang Stadium.
