CTBA: Taichung City tops table at 12U Herbalife Cup tourney

Taichung City team set the early pace among all competitors as the Chinese Taipei Herbalife Cup tournament got started this week.

Taichung City team set the early pace among all competitors as the Chinese Taipei Herbalife Cup tournament got started this week.

In the opening game, Taichung City blanked Hsinchu County 7-0, and they went on to knock off defending champion Taitung County 9-4 in their second contest at Taipei’s Hsinsheng Park Field.

From other result on opening day, Tainan City routed Chiayi County 12-2 in a game that saw 3 home run blasts.

A total of 12 school teams, representing contenders from various cities and municipality regions of Chinese Taipei, are competing in this Herbalife Cup tourney.

After the double-elimination round-robin format, the top winners will meet in the final this weekend at the Youth Park Field of Taipei City.

Sponsor of this 12U competition is Herbalife Inc., a renowned food nutrition and dietary supplement company, and this is their 7th year of support for amateur baseball.

At the opening ceremony CTBA Secretary-General Richard Lin took time to thank Ms. Angela Lue, General Manager of Herbalife Taiwan, as without her company’s support, these games would not have been possible.

Lue said her company will continue to their long-term commitment and financial support of amateur baseball, especially for school teams in the poor, rural regions to help them compete against the better-off city teams.

The gold-medal team of this year’s Herbalife Cup will form the nucleus of Chinese Taipei national squad to participate in the BFA (Baseball Federation of Asia) 12U Asia Championships from Aug. 16 to 23 in Chengdu, China.
