Czech baseball season to open on 22 May
The Czech Republic is one of the top baseball nations in Europe, ranked 15th in the WBSC World Rankings.

The Czech Baseball Association announced that the 10-team ExtraLeague, the top baseball level in the Central European country, will open on Friday, 22 May. The complete schedule is currently being finalized.

The Czech ExtraLeague is set to become the first top-tier baseball league in Europe to open its 2020 season.

The Czech Republic, the current U-23 European champions, are one of 12 nations set to participate in the WBSC U-23 Baseball World Cup later this year.

With the country affected, like others in Europe and around the world, by the COVID-19 outbreak, the Czech Baseball Association launched during the lockdown the #SafeAtHome initiative.

The first step was creating a dedicated section on its official website to share home training videos. The number of videos available is now 71 with the home training drills covering different age categories. The videos will remain available to players who wish to keep improving their skills individually.

The #SafeAtHome project is a concept developed by the Media Team, the Coaches Commission and the Marketing Commission of the Czech Baseball Association.

The Czech Baseball programme is ranked at No. 16 by WBSC. The Czech Republic recently surpassed Italy to become the second best-ranked baseball programme in Europe after the Netherlands.
