Czech Republic claims Super 6 softball championship; Netherlands, Italy to play for gold in baseball

Czech Republic Women’s Softball National Team clinched today the title in the first ever Super 6 tournament, held in Hoofddorp, the Netherlands. The final game had to be cancelled due to weather conditions. Netherlands and Italy will face in the championship game of the Super 6 baseball tournament

Czech Republic Women’s Softball National Team clinched today the title in the first ever Super 6 tournament, held in Hoofddorp, the Netherlands. The final game between Czech Republic and Italy had to be cancelled due to weather conditions; the Czech team was crowned softball Super 6 champion, after winning the round robin undefeated.

In the first game of the day Czech Republic and Netherlands completed the round robin, to decide the top two teams to play the finale. And Czech Republic defeated the host team, 1-0, to remain unbeaten.

In the bronze medal game Great Britain beat Netherlands by a score of 3-2, and climbed on the third step of the podium. For the fifth place, Greece came from behind in the top of the seventh to claim the victory over Russia, 5-4.

Veronika Peckova (CZE) was named the best pitcher and also the MVP of the tournament, while Amanda Fama (ITA) was the best hitter of the event.

The Super 6 is a WBSC Europe event for baseball and softball, with the top six European teams in each sport participating in the tournaments.

Netherlands to play Italy in Super 6 baseball finale

On Sunday 22 September Netherlands and Italy will face again in the championship game of the Super 6 baseball tournament. Both nations advanced as the top two teams of the round robin.

On Thursday Netherlands defeated Italy, 9-8, in extra innings, in the best game of the round robin. The host team tied the game in the bottom of the ninth with a pair of solo homers by Kalian Sams and Sicnarf Loostok. Then in the top of the tenth Italy retook the lead with an RBI single by Andrew Maggi, but Netherlands came from behind with a walkoff single by Randolph Oduber.

The final game will be played at 13:30 local time, and will be live-streamed here.

Spain ended the tournament in third place, with a 3-2 record, followed by Belgium, Germany and Czech Republic.
