Czech Republic men’s softball championship series set to open

The Beavers Chomutov will face the Hippos Havlickuv Brod in the championship series, which opens on Saturday, 3 October.

The Czech Softball Association's Men’s Extraleague is now down to two teams. The Beavers Chomutov and the Hippos Havlickuv Brod will play a best-of-five series for the national championship in men's softball.

The first two games of the final series will take place this weekend. The opener will be on Saturday 3 October, with the second match to be played on Sunday.

Top-seeded Chomutov advanced to the finals of the extra league for the first time since 2015 and will look to capture their 12th overall title. They swept their semifinal series against Tempo Prague to advance to the finals.

The Hippos needed a full five games to knock out defending champions Ledenice Sharks. The Havlickuv Brod team is back in the championship series after two years, after having lost to Tempo Prague in the fifth and decisive game in 2018.

Originally scheduled to begin in the middle of April, the Czech 10-team men’s softball league opened on 6 June due to COVID-19.
