Highly regarded Luis Rojas is the son of Dominican baseball legend Felipe Alou and brother of former six-time MLB All-Star Moises Alou.

NEW YORK -- Luis Rojas is set to become the new manager of Major League Baseball’s New York Mets, according to mlb.com.

Both the Dominican Baseball Federation (FEDOBE) and the Dominican Olympic Committee sent their congratulations to Rojas, who managed the Dominican Republic National Baseball Team in the WBSC Premier12 last November.

Under Rojas, the Dominican Republic squad just missed advancing to the Premier12 Super Round after dropping a close contest to USA (10-8), in what was an opening round knockout game. The Dominican Republic finished with a 1-2 record and tied for seventh place overall.

The Dominican Republic is looking to capture a spot in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and will compete in the WBSC Baseball Americas Qualifier in Arizona this March, along with Canada, Colombia, Cuba, Nicaragua, Puerto Rico, USA and Venezuela. National Teams are currently shaping their rosters and coaching staffs for the qualifier.
