Dominican Republic to open National Team selection process for next WBSC Women's Baseball World Cup

Camp opens on 9 November and manager Joselito Canó Soriano, the father of MLB All-Star Robinson Canó, will announce the final roster in two weeks.

Dominican Republic Women's Baseball manager Jose Canó has announced that he's ready to start gathering the best players in the country in order to field a top national team for the next WBSC Women's Baseball World Cup, scheduled for March 2021 in Mexico.

A total of 35 players will open camp on Monday, 9 November, in San Pedro De Macoris. A final roster will be announced by Canó after two weeks.

"Having the National Team participate in the Women's Baseball World Cup makes us proud," said Juan Núñez Nepomuceno, the president of the Dominican Baseball Federation (FEDOBE, Federación Dominicana de Béisbol). "We are going to make a joint effort with the Women's Baseball League (LDBF, Liga de Béisbol Feminino)."

Canó, born 1962, is a former professional right-handed pitcher, FEDOBE first vice president and the father of Major League Baseball (MLB) superstar Robinson Canó, whom he named after legendary Jackie Robinson. Father Jose pitched for Robinson in the 2011 MLB Home Run Derby.

In his playing days, the elder Canó appeared in six MLB games for the Houston Astros. He spent the late part of his career in the Chinese Professional Baseball League (CPBL), playing for the Uni-President Lions (1992-1994) and the Wei Chuan Dragons (1998-1999).
