CARTAGENA, Colombia – The Dominican Republic and United States were crowned co-champions of the Americas, after rain forced COPABE officials to call off the Final of the U-15 Pan American Baseball Championship.

The rain came with the Dominican Republic U-15 National Team leading USA, 2-1, in the bottom of the fourth. The U.S. had runners on first and third base, with two outs.

Both nations lost only one time in the WBSC continental championship. The U.S. had previously defeated the Dominican Republic 16-1 in the second stage Super Round.

In the bronze medal contest, two-time defending WBSC U-15 Baseball World Cup champions Cuba defeated Panama, 6-1.

Brazil’s 5th Place finish (finishing ahead of baseball powerhouses like Colombia, Puerto Rico, Venezuela and Nicaragua – and almost defeating the U.S.) in a Pan Am “tournament of death” is a sign that Brazil’s national youth baseball programme is reaching an elite level and that the future is bright for their U-18, U-23 and Men’s National Teams.
