Dominican Republic wins baseball friendlies in Barranquilla

Wins over Puerto Rico and Colombia were worth the trophy, despite a defeat on Sunday against Venezuela. Bryan Ortiz was named the best hitter, Carlos Valdez the best pitcher and Eric Maria earned MVP Honours

The Dominican Republic won the four team friendly tournament that opened the new Edgar Renteria Stadium in Barranquilla, Colombia. The venue will host the baseball tournament of the Central American and Caribbean games.

The Dominicans finished with 2 wins. The hosts Colombia shared the same record, but the Whitaker-Brownfield trophy went to DR thanks to the win, 4-2, against Colombia.
Figueroa hit a solo homer and an RBI single to give his National Team a lead. Willy Lebron went 5 innings and earned the win. José Valdez earned the save.

Colombia claimed second place as they defeated (7-0) Puerto Rico. Starter Jonathan Escudero went 6 innings and allowed only 4 hits. Colombia scored 2 in the first at bat against Juan Aponte and never needed to look back.

Venezuela finished fourth despite a 3-0 win against the Dominican Republic.

Bryan Ortiz (Puerto Rico) was named the best hitter.
Carlos Valdez (Dominican Republic) was named the best pitcher.
Eric Maria (Dominican Republic) was named the tournament MVP.
