Draci Brno defeated defending national champions Arrows Ostrava, three games to one, in the best-of-five Czech Baseball Association (CBA) 'ExtraLiga' series, which represents the highest level of competition in the Central European country. The championship marks Draci's 22nd national crown in the club's history.
Draci, or the Dragons, won the opener, 6-1, and the second game, 6-4. The Arrows forced a Game 4, with a 3-1 win in the third contest.
Draci won the title with a 4-1 Game 4 victory. They got on the scoreboard first in the top of the sixth on a home run by Premek Chroust. Petr Cech, who was named the best hitter of the series, later added a two-run homer to cushion the lead.
Draci starting pitcher Ondrej Furek shut out the Arrows for seven innings. Ostrava tried to fight back against reliever Martin Schneider but managed to score only once.
The Czech ExtraLiga opened on 22 May, becoming the first European baseball league to start the 2020 season amid the COVID-19 outbreak. The teams played an 18-game regular season. The top six finishers played a 15-game round robin and the top four qualified for the best-of-three semifinals.
