Ex-Venezuelan Baseball President Edwin Zerpa passes away

The Venezuelan baseball leader, who helped launch the Pan Am Baseball Confederation, was influential at the national, continental and world levels, hosting international events and helping to grow the game for more than four decades.

CARACAS -- Former Venezuelan Baseball Federation (FEVEBEISBOL) President Edwin Zerpa Pizzorno (1943-2020) passed away on Monday, 1 June.

Zerpa served two terms (1985-88 and 2007-17) and 15 years as FEVEBEISBOL president.

The Venezuelan baseball leader also served in roles of president as well as vice president of the Pan American Baseball Confederation (COPABE), which he helped to launch in 1985.

The Venezuelan sports community and media, including the Venezuelan Olympic Committee, shared condolences on social media, following the news of Zerpa’s passing.

World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) President Riccardo Fraccari said: “The International Baseball and Softball Family mourns the loss of Edwin Zerpa Pizzorno, President and Founder of COPABE and former President of the Venezuelan Baseball Federation.”
