Fans return to Taiwan Professional Women’s Softball League as foreign players make their debut

Up to 300 people are being allowed to attend Wanshou Baseball Stadium in Taichung. Kelly Barnhill and Kaisey Carson became TPWSL's first foreign players this season after being quarantined for 14 days.

Taiwan Professional Women’s Softball League (TPWSL) was the first softball league in the world to open its 2020 season. Now the league hit another milestone by allowing fans in the stadiums for the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic shut down much of the sports world. With the consent of the government, 300 spectators were admitted to attend TPWSL games Wanshou Baseball Stadium in Taichung over the weekend.

The TPWSL also welcomed its first "import" players of the season, Kelly Barnhill and Kaisey Carson, who both completed a government-mandated 14-day quarantine. Barnhill, who helped the USA National Team to win the 2018 WBSC Women’s Softball World Championship, made instant headlines by setting a new record with 18 strikeouts in her first game.

Professional sports in Taiwan are gradually opening their stadiums to fans, including the Chinese Professional Baseball League, the top sports league in the island which welcomed fans back on 8 May.
